Where Most of the World's Poor Live
Many people believe the world's poor primarily live in rich countries. That's incorrect.

Developing countries are the most impoverished regions of the world. Low-income areas lack many of the world's basic resources. In addition, corrupt leaders and weak institutions prevent them from improving the living standards of their citizens. International aid is a necessity for helping the world's most needy people.
The poorest areas are in sub-Saharan Africa and Central America. There is a lack of clean water and adequate food for many rural residents. Additionally, there are no investments or employment opportunities in these areas.
Even when poor regions have resources, corrupt leaders and low international aid discourage them from improving living levels.
Thankfully, grassroots efforts are helping poor people find solutions to these problems.

Terry,
I have a slightly different take on poverty. I believe many Americans help the poor in other countries but don't see the poverty in the U.S. We have many here who struggle every day to survive.
